PUTRAJAYA, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- A developer and contractor involved in renovating a hotel owned by IOI Resort were fined by the Kajang Magistrate's, which sat here on Monday, for encroaching into a sewage treatment plant belonging to Indah Water Consortium (IWK) at the IOI Resort's premises here.

Magistrate Faizal @ Amrin Noor Hadi fined contractor Binastra Construction (M) Sdn Bhd RM5,000 and developer Resort Villa Development Sdn Bhd RM4,000 for the offence.

Both companies admitted guilt to encroaching into the premises between May 10 and 28, 2008.

The offence under Section 122(d) of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 carries a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or jail of not more than six months, or both, upon conviction.

Binastra was represented by its director Tan Yan Paw while Resort Villa by its manager Hisham Mohd Noh and counsel S.Sivanesan.
