INVITATION TO ALL STAKEHOLDERS
In year 2009, SPAN had enforced the compliance of Malaysia Standard MS 1968:2007 for Mild Steel Cement Lined Pipes and Fittings in replacement of withdrawn standard BS 534 for the manufacturing of steel pipes and fittings. The introduction of the new Malaysia Standard had presented some difficulties in attaining compliance to certain new clauses of the Standard by the local manufacturers. Subsequently, SPAN had set up a special task force to study the non-compliance clauses of MS 1968:2007.
After a few consultation with the stakeholders, the task force had decided to cease the enforcement of MS 1968:2007 and had come to the decision that SPAN would develop a new Technical Speciation for steel pipes, fittings and joints including all internal and external corrosion protection requirements to replace the withdrawn standard BS 534, which currently is still in use by the industry until the completion and the enforcement of the new SPAN Technical Specification.
